Yannis is a project development and procurement lawyer in Mills Oakley’s national Corporate (Energy, Resources & Infrastructure) team, advising on globally significant transactions.

Yannis advises ASX-listed, private and government clients on the world’s most significant mining, energy, and infrastructure projects. He also has extensive experience in advising lenders; financers; government and government trading enterprises; and investors.

He is trusted advisor of the firm’s clients, who demonstrates extensive sector-expertise in advising on:

  • contracting strategy and structuring;
  • tendering and procurement processes; and
  • the negotiation, drafting and contract management of development and procurement arrangements throughout the life cycle of a project.

Recent Matters

  • Iluka Resources as a strategic advisor on its innovative Balranald critical minerals project in New South Wales, with specific emphasis on the engineering, procurement and construction management arrangements for developing this mineral sands project. This project utilises new technologies that offer a significant reduction in environmental disturbance and carbon intensity.
  • Synergy on the development of the 180 MW Warradarge Wind Farm, Kwinana BESS (Stage 1), Kwinana BESS (Stage 2), Collie BESS (Stage 1), Warradarge Wind Farm Stage 2, King Rocks Wind Farm, and Greenough River Solar Farm.
  • BHP / OZ Minerals on the 12 Mtpa Mineral Processing Plant for the $1.7 billion West Musgrave Nickel-Copper Project, including the preparation and negotiation of a Construct Only Contract, Equipment Supply Contract, an EPCM Agreement, and an EPC Contract, and providing strategic advice on contract structuring and contract management.
  • Norilsk Nickel PJSC MMC on the procurement of AUD 560 million in engineering services and equipment in connection with its AUD 5.5 billion environmentally-focused upgrade project to key mine processing plant.
  • Horizon Power on arrangements for its outsourced engineering services panel, including strategic advice, preparation of tender documents, lead negotiator of contracts, and stakeholder management with executive, board and Western Australian government.
  • Multiple Lenders, including Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility and Export Finance Australia, on the project financing of Arafura’s Nolans Rare Earths Project, located in the Northern Territory, Australia.
  • Gold Fields on the development of its self-delivered St Ives Hybrid Power Project, including preparation and negotiation of Solar EPC Contracts; Wind TSI Contracts; Wind O&M Contracts; Balance of Plant Contracts; and project structuring, project management, and internal approvals processes.
  • Hesperia and Home Fire on the construction and development arrangements for its world-class Perth Film Studio located in Malaga, Western Australia.
