Robert Murphy

Robert Murphy is a banking and finance lawyer based in Sydney.

Robert regularly acts for lenders and borrowers in property finance, general corporate lending, asset backed lending, asset finance, debt capital markets and structured finance.

Robert’s clients include the non-bank lenders Metrics and Austar Finance, US, Canadian and Chinese banks along with borrowers including developers, mining companies, agricultural companies, healthcare companies and technology companies.

Robert has been practising for over 15 years (including two years in London). Robert joined Mills Oakley in June 2022 and previously he has been with top tier firms in Australia and was with an international firm in its Sydney and London office for over ten years.

  • Acted for a borrower joint venture for a $140 million syndicated financing for the construction of 137 residential apartments in Claremont Western Australia in January 2026
  • Acted for the borrower with respect to a nearly $300 million syndicated financing used to fund the acquisition of the Stamford Hotel in November 2024
  • Acted for a major Australian agricultural company in June 2023 putting in place a common terms deed structure with a syndicate of three banks
  • Acted for an Australian goldminer with respect to their financing to fund the expansion of their gold processing facilities at Ballarat in February 2025
  • Regularly act for Austar finance with respect to property loans in the range between $5 million and $20 million
  • Regularly act for MBF SME Lending Pty Ltd (a subsidiary of Metrics) with respect to property loans in the range of $2 million and $20 million
  • Acted for Polaris Marine in 2023 with respect to an acquisition of a slipway company.
