Mike is a Partner in the Sydney Property team with over 30 years’ experience in all areas of property and projects, and has been the lead project lawyer on some of the State’s most significant transactions, developments and whole precinct urban renewals.

Mike is known to be strategically innovative and commercially driven to achieve the client’s objectives. Mike has advised both private and public sector clients including state owned corporations, and listed entities across multiple jurisdictions including Singapore, China, Malaysia and Germany.

Mike has extensive experience in acquisitions and disposals of real estate of all types, office, commercial and infrastructure leasing (including long term leasehold of public sector land), subdivision and complex stratum and strata title structuring of special purpose or mixed use projects freehold and leasehold across Australia.

Expertise

Mike’s expertise includes:

  • Acting for landlords and tenants in drafting, reviewing and advising on leases, agreements for lease, options to lease, incentive deeds and other associated licences for commercial, industrial and retail properties and infrastructure facilities.
  • Long term leasehold of project development sites on public sector land.
  • Complex stratum and strata title structuring including drafting of building management statements, by-laws, section 88B instruments, easements and covenants.
  • Legal due diligence including review of mining agreements and local planning policies.
  • Foreign investment (interest in land) compliance and advice for offshore corporates and developers.
  • Commercial, residential and mixed-use developments including acquisitions and disposals of real property (freehold and leasehold), options and high-volume off the plan transactions.

  • Major property projects including whole precinct renewals, multi-use projects and staged release projects on private sector or public sector land, freehold or long term leasehold.
  • The ‘Ribbon’ W Hotel Project, Sydney – Complex stratum and strata title structuring on leasehold land, structuring of building management operations.
  • Norwest Business Park – acquisition of 50% interest in land and hotel business.
  • NSW Wind Farm – Options to lease with over 20 landowners and TransGrid easements and government management plans.
  • Glebe Island Multi-user Port Facility – agreements to lease for port infrastructure.
  • Parq on Flinders, Wollongong – land acquisition for a Malaysian based developer, stratum and strata subdivision and disposal of over 300 commercial and residential units split across 5 stratum lots.
  • Compulsory land acquisition claim under Acquisition of Land Act 1967 (Qld) – Acting on behalf a German listed entity involved in rail infrastructure manufacturing in a significant transaction restructure of occupied areas and a compensation claim with the Qld Department of Transport and Main Roads and whole of site lease negotiations.
