In her previous role as a Legal Director at the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), she led the OAIC’s major investigation into large-scale data breaches, took strategic carriage of the leading privacy determinations on facial recognition technology, and gave critical input into high profile litigation involving a social medial platform. As part of the Legal team at the OAIC, Cate also acted as Privacy Officer, delegated Freedom of Information (FOI) decision maker and advised on Information Commissioner FOI reviews.
