National law firm Mills Oakley is delighted to be recognised at the Chambers Asia-Pacific and Greater China Region Diversity and Inclusion Awards 2024 in the category of Pro Bono: Outstanding Firm.

The awards, announced at a ceremony in Hong Kong on 29 May 2024, recognise a law firm’s pre-eminence in key jurisdictions in the region. They also reflect achievements over the past 12 months, including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth and excellence in client service.

The awards honour the work of national and international law firms across the region based on the research for the recent edition of Chambers Asia Pacific Guide.

In January 2021, Mills Oakley launched its own in-house community legal service called Everyday Justice. Everyday Justice is established as a public company limited by guarantee and is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission. The firm also has a formal pro bono practice which helps increase the firm’s broader capacity to engage in pro bono work. The practice is coordinated by three Mills Oakley lawyers who perform only pro bono work and who are seconded to Everyday Justice part-time to run a legal practice within the community legal service.

Pro bono is also engrained in the firm’s wider culture, with 40% of Mills Oakley’s commercial lawyers also engaging in pro bono work – whether it be their own matters or volunteering for Everyday Justice.

Mills Oakley Head of Pro Bono Amy Burton said it was pleasing that the work of Everyday Justice and the firm’s proud traditional of social responsibility has been given international recognition.

Ms Burton was this week promoted to Partner, effective 1 July 2024.
