Mills Oakley has been awarded the TMA Australia award for the deal of the year 2025 for advising the US lender in respect of the cross-border recapitalisation and acquisition of the Jervois mining group.

TMA Australia is a key industry association for turnaround management and restructuring professionals. The Restructuring Deal of the Year Award recognises those involved in a successful financial restructuring of an organisation involving complexity in capital structure, cross border elements and sensitive stakeholder management issues.

The firm received the award for its role as Australian adviser to the US lender and acquirer on all Australian aspects of the landmark cross border restructure, including the Australian restructuring strategy, working closely with Squire Patton Boggs as Australian corporate and finance counsel to the lender and Paul Hastings US, who managed all aspects of the US Chapter 11 strategy.

“The Jervois restructuring is the first instance where a lender has utilised an Australian voluntary administration process with an interlocking US Chapter 11, to acquire a multi jurisdictional corporate obligor group. Control and managing shareholder disruption risk were key for our client and dictated the strategy it ultimately adopted.
