It’s been another eventful month for the Sydney Mills Oakley Family Law Team. Take a look below to find out what we’ve been up to and where we have travelled to.
A recent decision of the Full Court of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia confirms that, following legislative reform, “addbacks” can no longer be included in the property pool in family law matters. This has fundamentally shifted how dissipated assets are to be treated in property settlements.

2026 Pan Europe Pacific Conference
Last week, our Senior Associate, Antonia Marran, had the opportunity to be part of the 2026 Pan Europe Pacific CPE Conference event held at Sorbonne University International Conference Centre in Paris. Antonia presented on Parenting Coordination, an area that is becoming increasingly important in supporting families through high conflict parenting matters and helping to create more workable, long-term arrangements.
Our Partner, Susan Warda, also presented at the CPE Conference on property settlements and asset protection, covering financial agreements, prenups and the growing role of the “Bank of Mum and Dad”. With the Bank of Mum and Dad now being the 9th biggest lender in Australia, during her presentation, Susan discussed the steps a client can take to ensure that the money advanced to their child is protected in the event there is a family law property settlement. Susan also touched on the four-step process that is involved in determining a just and equitable family law property settlement. Including:
This was one of the events they contributed to to whilst in Europe, with a continued focus on international family law and the complexities that accompany it.
Australia France Business Association
Susan and Antonia also presented, along with International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL) Fellow, Elodie Mulon, at the Australia France Business Association event held at NAB Europe in their Paris office. Together they explored the practical challenges that arise when legal systems intersect, particularly in relation to property, succession and cross-border considerations. Our Special Counsel, Susannah Quinn, also joined Susan and Antonia at the thoughtful and well-attended discussion on family law issues affecting Australians in France.
