Con Gotis-Graham is a partner in our Sydney office working in the area of Toxic Torts. Con has extensive litigation experience in most jurisdictions, with an emphasis on defending complex claims under common law and statutory liability schemes. His particular expertise is in dust diseases litigation, involving complex legal, factual, scientific and medical issues such as foreseeability and causation. He advises on national and international liability issues. Con has nearly 30 years of defence experience in this area.
Con brings a wealth of experience from the high level advising he has done on a number of key Australian dust disease cases both at trial and appellate levels. He has defended many thousands of claims in the Dust Diseases Tribunal of New South Wales. Con regularly makes submissions to, and consults with the New South Wales Government and interested organisations regarding the Common Law and statutory scheme regulating the conduct of dust diseases litigation.
Con acts for the largest Australian manufacturer of asbestos building, insulation products and friction materials including brakes and brake linings. In addition, he has also acted for one of the world’s largest integrated zinc, lead and silver mining companies in relation to its silica defence strategies and claims work.
Con was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2017 and 2018 Australian Financial Review’s Best Lawyers in Australia list in the category of Litigation. Con has also been selected for inclusion in the Doyle’s Guide Leading Defendant Dust Diseases Rankings – New South Wales, 2017.
